We seek to support the medical professionals working with those with PANS and other immune-mediated neuropsychiatric conditions in Scotland. We do this by:
- Signposting to evidence-based resources for medical and research professionals.
- Understanding the level of knowledge and understanding in NHS Boards across Scotland, and share up to date information where appropriate.
- Bring together information and professionals from across Scotland.
- Support research.

- The Knowledge Network is the national digital library for health and social care in Scotland. It is managed by NHS Education for Scotland, and provides free access for health and care staff to a wide range of evidence summaries, journals, books, and databases via The Knowledge Network. It can be accessed online from anywhere, at any time and on any device:
The knowledge network gives access to a wide range of information. Most notably for PANS:
- British Medical Journal – Best Practice – Your login to the Knowledge Network gives NHS and Social care staff access to the BMJ Best Practice app, where you can find summarised, quality-assured evidence to support decision making at the point of care. BMJ Best Practice lists Paediatric Acute-onset Neuro-psychiatric Syndrome (PANS) within it’s condition directory, offering information and support for clinicians.
- Books, Journals , Articles…. – A catalogue search of books, journals and articles for “Paediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome” (and spelling variations) returned 641 results.
- British Paediatric Neurology Association (BPNA) page on PANS and PANDAS, with links to up to date guidance, developed as part of the PANS PANDAS Steering Group (PPSG) (see below).
- PANS PANDAS Steering Group (PPSG) are a working group with representatives from a variety of stakeholders including several of the Royal Colleges of Medicine. While there are currently no clinical guidelines for PANS or PANDAS in the UK, they are, however, under development through the PPSG, and are due to be published in Autumn 2026. They are expected to be endorsed by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and signposted by NICE. In the interim, the steering group have issued guidance signposting to International peer-reviewed diagnostic and treatment guidance.
