Welcome to PANS+ Scotland
PANS+ Scotland was founded as a not-for-profit organisation in October 2025, originally called PANS PANDAS Scotland, we re-named and re-branded in December 2025, as the community came together, and we prepare for submission to OSCR for Charitable status in Scotland. Our purpose is to support the community affected by PANS and PANDAS in Scotland through raising awareness, sharing information and providing opportunities for the community to connect.

What is PANS?

Paediatric Acute Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) and it’s better-known sub-condition Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS) are believed to be the result of a misdirected immune response to a pathogenic trigger, leading to the abrupt onset of a range of challenging symptoms, including OCD, tics and restricted food intake, alongside cognitive, behavioural, and neurological symptoms.
It is difficult to put into words the extent of the challenge that those affected face, with each individual experiencing a unique spectrum of symptoms. The image above shows a summary of the impact with diagnostic criteria in purple, reported additional symptoms in teal, and reported challenges and consequences shown vertically.
The conditions primarily impact Children and Young People, however adults can develop PANS, and if untreated or not fully responsive to treatment, the conditions can also be taken into adulthood.
